Alexander R. Harris Named President of Slocum-Dickson Medical Group

Slocum-Dickson Medical Group is pleased to announce that Alexander R. Harris, MD, has been named President of the Board of Managers. Dr. Harris has been with Slocum-Dickson Medical Group since 2018.

Dr. Harris completed his residency in ophthalmology at SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York. He received his medical degree from the Commonwealth Medical College of Pennsylvania in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and then went on to complete post-graduate training at the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Harris began his Slocum-Dickson career by working alongside his father, Ophthalmologist Alan D. Harris, MD, who provided eye care to Slocum-Dickson Medical Group patients for nearly 30 years. Dr. Harris grew up in upstate New York and is deeply committed to serving his community.

Dr. Harris offers comprehensive, cutting-edge surgical eye care. The Slocum-Dickson Eye Care Center also offers full-service eye care for the entire family, from infants to seniors. The Eye Care Center provides eye exams, name brand and designer frames, contact lenses, surgical solutions, and other services.

Since 2019, Dr. Harris has served as a member of the Group’s Board of Managers. In his new role as President, he will be tasked with even more administrative duties. His commitment to the community and patients, as well as his strong leadership skills and vision for the future, will help guide the Group through many exciting changes. Dr. Harris will be in charge of overseeing all aspects of the organization to ensure that the Group’s high quality standards are upheld and that patients have the best possible experience while receiving care.

Slocum-Dickson Medical Group is dedicated to enhancing our community’s health by providing much-needed primary and specialty care in Upstate New York. The Group will open a new location at 117 Business Park Drive this summer. The Business Park Drive Campus will include a cutting-edge Breast Care Center, Dermatology, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Radiology, MRI and PET CT, and other services. The new facility will have more parking, and the extra space will allow the Group to bring in more specialists and primary care physicians. “Past President James Cesare, MD has done an amazing job with the buildout of the Business Park Campus,” says Dr. Harris. “This facility will allow Slocum-Dickson Medical Group to expand while also providing much-needed medical resources to the community in which we live.”

Slocum-Dickson will unveil a new logo in conjunction with the opening of the Business Park Drive Campus. Slocum-Dickson Medical Group will now have three medical campuses (Burrstone Road Campus, Ilion Campus, and Business Park Drive Campus), and the Group wanted to bring all three campuses together in one logo. “Slocum-Dickson Medical Group is all about comprehensive care, with all of our physicians working together for the benefit of our patients,” Dr. Harris said. “Our goal was to combine this continuity of care and our long history into a modern new logo.”

The Slocum-Dickson team will wear a sneak peek of the new Slocum-Dickson logo at the upcoming America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk. “We’ve been a proud sponsor of the American Heart Association and a Radiothon sponsor for years,” Dr. Harris says, “this event seems like the perfect time to share our new logo with the public.” Dr. Harris will be walking with his wife and family and is looking forward to competing in the American Heart Association’s Treadmill Challenge on May 7th. “Our team is thrilled to show off our new colors and logo,” Harris said.

“The more things change, the more they stay the same,” wrote Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr. While Slocum-Dickson Medical Group is undergoing exciting changes, Dr. Harris would like to remind everyone that Slocum-Dickson has been caring for this community since 1938 and that we will continue to be committed to the care and health of our friends, family, and neighbors. Dr. Harris is excited to continue to see Eye Care Center patients while expanding his impact on this community’s healthcare through his new role as President of Slocum-Dickson Medical Group.
